Working time

The Organisation of Working Time Act 1997 governs all aspects of working time such as rest periods, weekly rest breaks, Sunday working, maximum working time and record keeping.

Employers need to ensure that they the relevant records to show they are fully compliant with all aspects of working time legislation in the event of a labour inspection from the Workplace Relations Commission.

01/02/2017 - Section 14 of the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997 sets out statutory rights for employees in respect of Sunday working

Working time guideline

08/06/2016 - This guideline outlines the provisions relating to rest breaks at work, weekly rest breaks and maximum working time as outlined in the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997. The guideline also outlines a number of exemptions and exclusions provided for under the Act.

Double employment form

27/08/2013 - This sample double employment form should be used to ensure compliance with the average maximum working week of 48 hours as outlined in the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997.

Rest break exemption policy

27/08/2013 - The Organisation of Working Time Act (Records) (Prescribed form and exemptions) Regulations (2001) provides an exemption from recording rest breaks provided certain conditions are complied with.

Working time regulations for mobile road transport workers

27/08/2013 - This summary outlines the implications of S.I. No. 36 of 2012 European Communities (Road Transport) (Organisation of Working Time of Persons Performing Mobile Road Transport Activities) Regulations 2012 which revoked S.I. No. 2 of 2005 European Communities (Organisation of Working Time of Persons Performing Mobile Road Transport Activities) Regulations, 2005.
